Aras River

The Aras River drains into the south side of the Lesser Caucasus after flowing through Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran. The river shows up in the last chapter of Aeneid VIII written by Virgil as “angry at the bridge” because it was seen as being conquered thanks to it having a way to cross.

The valley that the Aras flows being a bird research and education centre in 2006 by a non-government organisation in the attempt to be nature conservation. In this valley one of the two birding ringing stations can be found that say open all year, having ringed 198 different species with 258 being observed.
